"201LAB" is a rare room fragrance shop that specializes in selling fragrance by weight, and opened in February 2023. The reason why Art Labo Co., Ltd., the company behind "201LAB", started selling fragrance by weight was because of a question that arose while thinking about customers and the environment.

"Is it possible to eliminate waste from diffuser containers?"

He said he felt it was wasteful to see customers discarding the empty containers and purchasing new fragrances every time they finished using them.

"We thought that by selling fragrances by weight and having customers reuse the containers, we could reduce waste. This conserves resources, reduces costs, and allows us to offer our products at reasonable prices. We want customers to be able to purchase their favorite scents in as many quantities as they like," says Art Lab manager Takagi.

The name "201LAB" comes from the Kyoto City bus route "201" and the word "smell." As a fragrance manufacturer, the store was named "201LAB" because it wanted to "provide a cycle that allows you to enjoy fragrances effortlessly."

"I often get hints from customers about the perfumes and fabric softeners they normally use, and then suggest fragrances to them. However, some customers have a vague idea of what they like, but have trouble putting it into words. It makes me happy when I can arrive at the perfect fragrance for them through our conversation."

The store manager, Mr. Aoki, talked about the joy of serving customers. According to Mr. Aoki, repeat customers of "201LAB" are not only customers from the neighborhood. Some people stop by "201LAB" when they come to Kyoto on a trip, and then visit "201LAB" every time they visit Kyoto.

The "Kyoto Scenery Series", which can only be purchased at two of Art Lab's fragrance shops, "201LAB" and its sister store "cotoiro", is the perfect souvenir for your trip to Kyoto.

There are 12 scents in total, named after Kyoto places such as "Saga". Art Lab's fragrances are characterized by their use of invisible themes such as scenery and sounds. For example, the orange of dusk is expressed with the scent of mandarin.
