We spoke with the representative director, Miho Takahashi, about her thoughts and dedication to Daruma doll making.

Happy Daruma started in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture, known as the birthplace of Daruma doll production. After establishing its main store in Nishiarai, Adachi Ward in 2022, a branch store opened in this location.

We opened this store in Akihabara, within walking distance, with the desire to introduce Daruma dolls to overseas visitors who come to Japan because they love anime and games.

They said a major reason for choosing this location was their shared vision of the commercial facility as a "town of craftsmanship," and their attraction to the close relationship between creators and customers.

The store's concept is "A Gift of Happiness." If you look closely at the Daruma dolls they sell, you'll notice that they don't have eyes yet. This reflects Mr. Takahashi's wish that those who purchase them will draw in the eyes themselves, imbuing them with their own wishes and goals.

"We've received many comments from people saying that when they make eye contact with the Daruma doll they have displayed in their room, they feel strangely more positive. We hope that the Daruma doll can become like a small cheering squad that encourages and supports them."
