Atelier & Gallery Creava is located near the ruins of Nagamachi Samurai Residences, where old-fashioned earthen walls and stone-paved alleys remain, along with a row of magnificent samurai residences.

This complex art facility houses an art gallery in a quaint space renovated from a storehouse, as well as a shop and cafe, pottery classes, a restaurant, and workshop studios.

At the pottery studio, you can experience making pottery using an electric potter's wheel and painting it.

The instructor will provide gentle support as you progress, so even first-time participants can feel at ease.

This time, we spoke to gallery manager Izumi Kawagishi about the appeal of Kanazawa art.

Ishikawa Prefecture's crafts are characterized by the continued handed down of many types of traditional crafts, such as Kutani ware, Wajima lacquerware, and Kaga Yuzen.

Kawagishi-san told us, "When you visit Kanazawa, it's good to enjoy delicious food, but I also want people to pay attention to the crafts." This is because there are many opportunities in Kanazawa to actually touch the works of individual artists.

Encountering the work of an individual artist who cannot mass-produce their work is truly a blessing.
