Even at night, Okinawa's summers are hot. There must be many people who want to eat something cold while basking in the lukewarm, humid night breeze. The place that tickles the hearts of such people is "Yokaze ni Ice," a night parfait specialty store based on soft serve ice cream, located just a five-minute walk from Kokusai-dori and a six-minute walk from Miebashi Station.

A place to eat a cold parfait, perfect for a hot Okinawa night

Yokaze ni Ice was originally located in Okinawa City, located in the central part of Okinawa Prefecture. The Naha store opened in January 2023 to allow more customers to enjoy the shop.

"As a place where you can enjoy parfaits at night, it is loved by a wide range of customers, regardless of gender, age, or nationality."

These are the words of store manager Yamaguchi, who has worked at the Naha store since it opened.

When we asked Yamaguchi about the circumstances, he told us that the owner saw the 'night parfait boom' and thought that night parfaits would be especially popular in Okinawa.

Night parfaits started in Hokkaido and became popular in Osaka. At the time, the owner, who was running a cafe and food truck in Okinawa, thought, "Okinawa's warm climate all year round and its takeout culture would be a good match for night parfaits."

And so "Yokaze ni Ice Cream" was born in Okinawa, and now the "night parfait" culture has taken root.

A rich lineup of products packed with Okinawan flavors

The appeal of "Yokaze ni Ice Cream" is, without a doubt, the many menu items that allow you to fully experience the Okinawan flavor.

The most popular item is the "Purple Sweet Potato Mont Blanc." Made with plenty of Okinawan purple sweet potatoes, its rich flavor and vibrant color make it a hit with tourists and locals alike. The purple sweet potatoes used in the parfait are prepared in-house, making it a special item.

The "Chinsuko Soft Serve" uses Okinawa's classic souvenir chinsuko as a wafer. The soft serve ice cream is also sprinkled with finely crushed chinsuko powder, allowing you to fully enjoy the "Okinawan flavor."

Don't miss the limited-time menu. The current limited-time menu is the "Okinawa Zenzai-style Parfait." It is an updated parfait version of the Okinawan classic "chilled zenzai."

"For the soft serve ice cream that forms the base of the parfait, we chose a refreshing, easy-to-eat flavor to suit Okinawa's hot climate," says Yamaguchi. The simple, cold ice cream brings out the best in Okinawan ingredients such as purple yam, chinsuko, and zenzai.

The perfect spot to end your sightseeing trip

Another appeal of Yokaze ni Ice is its convenient location, just a five-minute walk from Kokusai Street.

"We're open until midnight, so you can order right up until closing time. I hope you'll feel free to stop by between sightseeing on Kokusai-dori or after a night of drinking," says Yamaguchi. Last month, a sister store, Café & Bar MY PLACE, opened just 30 seconds on foot from Kokusai-dori. You can enjoy tea and alcohol with shaved ice, soft serve ice cream, and pancakes produced by Yokaze ni Ice.
