HOTEL RESOL KYOTO KAWARAMACHI SANJO sells stationery made from Kyoto Karakami paper.
Karakami originated as decorative paper that is said to have been introduced from China during the Nara period. It began to be produced in Kyoto and was a favorite of aristocrats in the Heian period when writing waka poetry.
Karakami is a beautiful traditional Kyoto craft that is printed by hand using a woodblock (hangi) on washi paper. The resulting color has a rich volume and unevenness, and the mica contained in the color reflects light, creating an elegant sparkle.

We hope that you will take home some Kyoto Karakami as a memento of your trip, so we are selling Karakami postcards and Karakami greeting cards in the Misakura Room, a living lobby on the first floor.
These products are original items from Tomaru, a workshop and shop run by Maruni Co., Ltd. in Kyoto. To preserve the tradition of Kyo Karakami in the modern era, Tomaru offers hand-making experiences and sells a variety of items made with Kyo Karakami.

Three types of "Karakami postcards." From left to right: "Kagehinataedazakura (Shadowed Cherry Blossoms)," "Hyotan (Gourd)," and "Nejikiku (Screwed Chrysanthemum)."
HOTEL RESOL KYOTO KAWARAMACHI SANJO sells three carefully selected patterns from among the many available, each of which has a meaning that has been passed down since ancient times.
For example, there are the "Shadow Hinataeda Sakura" which represents noble dignity and means blessings, and the "Nejikiku" which wards off evil spirits and wishes for longevity. In addition to choosing your favorite color and pattern, one of the pleasures is taking the time to carefully consider the meaning behind them.

The "Karakami Postcard" seems to capture the atmosphere of Kyoto. We recommend sending letters to family and friends while enjoying the texture of the paint.
You can also display it in a small frame and enjoy it as a piece of interior decor that adds a touch of Japanese style and memories of your travels to your everyday life.

From the left, "Tatsunami", "Peony Arabesque", and "Pine Arabesque"
Karakami greeting cards are bifold cards with inner paper and envelopes, and feature traditional patterns such as the peony arabesque pattern that has been seen since the Heian period.
If you give it as a gift to a special person, the recipient will surely be thrilled by its elegant appearance.

Each piece of "Kyoto Karakami" stationery is hand-finished by a craftsman. Its warm texture seems to subtly convey feelings that cannot be expressed in words alone.
You can experience the aesthetic sense of the ancient capital by actually holding the piece in your hands, feeling the texture of the paint on your fingertips and the beauty of the sparkling patterns. Please take your time to choose your favorite piece to decorate your memories of your trip.
