The dazzling winter festival "Fukuoka Christmas Advent" has come to Fukuoka. This year, under the new theme "Five Senses Christmas," you can enjoy a fantastical time woven together with light, sound, fine food, and art. This is the start of a special season in which the whole city is filled with love, hope, and happiness.

"Advent" is preparation for Christmas

The word "Advent" means "the preparation period until Christmas." In Europe and the United States, as Christmas approaches, people turn the pages of advent calendars filled with sweets and presents, looking forward to Christmas as it gradually draws closer.

"Fukuoka Christmas Advent" also gets excited as the event begins in November, leading up to Christmas. Starting with "Nakasu Hikari Advent" in the Nakasu district, the entire city is decorated with colorful illuminations and a festive atmosphere, from Tenjin and Hakata to Fukuoka Airport and Fukuoka Tower. The event will be renamed "Fukuoka Christmas Market" in 2023 and will be held on a larger scale this year, as it will be held as a more spectacular event.

The Nakasu Hikarino Advent, held in the Nakasu district, marks the beginning of the Fukuoka Christmas Advent. Glittering illuminations decorate Nakagawa Street and Fukuhaku Deai Bridge, inviting visitors into a mystical world.
The road of light along the Nakasu River is especially spectacular. You can enjoy the road of light reflected on the water's surface from the food stalls and bridges.

"Fukuoka Christmas Advent" aims to become "the world's best Christmas market" by 2030. This year, about 150 stores will be opening. There is no end to fun no matter where you visit, such as the "Forest of Light" in Tenjin Central Park, the largest area, and "Festa de Santa" in front of the Guest House, where more than 100 Santas gather and boast a spectacular view.
