[Limited to hotel guests] New Year's Day special event to enjoy freshly pounded rice cakes while traveling

HOTEL RESOL TRINITY KYOTO will be holding a New Year's Mochitsuki event exclusively for guests on New Year's Day, January 1, 2026. This is a special opportunity to casually experience a traditional Japanese event while traveling. The aroma of freshly pounded mochi will waft through the lobby, creating a refreshing feeling befitting the start of the new year.

Rice has been a symbol of vitality since ancient times, and it is said that mochi rice cakes have souls. Also, because mochi rice cakes have the property of stretching easily, they have been treasured in Japan as lucky charms that bring wishes for longevity and prosperity.

Nowadays, there are fewer opportunities to experience mochi pounding, but the charm of New Year's Mochi Pounding is that you can fully enjoy the experience of "watching, pounding, and eating."

The rice cakes used are carefully handmade by Hikarimochi Nakamura Honpo in Fushimi City, Kyoto Prefecture. This special dish is made with 100% Shiga Habutae glutinous rice, grown using a unique iron mineral cultivation method that applies only iron and tea leaves to the soil.

On the day of the event, craftsmen will demonstrate how to make rice cakes on the spot using a pestle and mortar. The aroma of steamed glutinous rice and the powerful sound of the pestle and mortar hitting each other will fill the lobby.

After the performance, you can also participate in a rice cake pounding experience. The experience of pounding rice cakes with a mortar and pestle will evoke the traditional New Year's scenes, making your New Year's Day trip even more special.
