Located just five subway stops from HOTEL RESOL SAPPORO NAKAJIMAKOUEN, in a quiet residential area of Kita 18-jo, close to Hokkaido University, is "CAFÉ de JIKAN," a wooden house with striking black siding and a red roof.
This building, which was used as a cowshed over 80 years ago, was renovated and transformed into a cafe in 2022.
The origins of "CAFÉ de JIKAN" lie in "Jikan," a curry restaurant started in 1980 (Showa 55) by the founder in a rented watch shop. The name of the restaurant was also derived from the watch shop. While changing its location and form, it continues to connect the memories of this land to the future.

The antique clocks adorning the entire wall were inherited from the old store.
In December 2021, Jiyujinsha Tokikan, a curry restaurant beloved by many citizens, closed its doors after more than 40 years of history due to the aging of the building. However, this history will now be carried on in two forms.
One is "Jiyujinsha Jikan," a curry restaurant that reopened in September 2024 at the site of its former location. The other is "CAFÉ de JIKAN," a galette shop that opened in July 2022.
Yuka Terunuma, the founder's eldest daughter, started the shop in a renovated old farmhouse that used to be a cowshed, with the desire to "create a new place where people can feel the unique charm of this area, such as the poplar and ginkgo tree-lined streets of Hokkaido University and the sight of students heading home at dusk."

The shop is decorated with antique clocks and lamps inherited from the old store, as well as patchwork tables that have been upcycled by hand, conveying the atmosphere of the former store.

Manager Izutsu Yukinori shared his love for the store.
The restaurant is supported by a diverse staff, led by manager Yukinari Izutsu. Having worked in various restaurants, Izutsu became the manager through fortunate circumstances, and he approaches the daily management of the restaurant with sincerity.
The restaurant is run by a diverse group of staff members, including a 70-year-old waiter whom Mr. Izutsu respectfully calls the "god of customer service," and staff members who learned cooking skills from scratch. They leverage the strengths of each individual to run the restaurant. Attracted by its warm and comfortable atmosphere, the restaurant is visited daily by many people, including students and faculty from Hokkaido University, local regulars, and tourists from overseas.

Our signature dish is galettes, and we also offer coffee shakes made with homemade soft serve ice cream from "Yamanaka Milk."
The signature dish at "CAFÉ de JIKAN" is the galette. The cool climate of Brittany, France, where the galette originated, is similar to that of Hokkaido, so they wanted to create a new culinary appeal by utilizing the wonderful ingredients that form the basis of the galette, such as buckwheat flour and wheat flour produced in Hokkaido.
The galettes are made using a unique blend of two types of Hokkaido-grown buckwheat flour, with the aim of supporting local production and consumption. The crispy, fragrant texture is a result of Mr. Izutsu's trial and error, and the galettes featuring thick slices of homemade ham are particularly popular.

The crispy crust is filled with a generous portion of homemade ham.
"You can choose between buckwheat or wheat flour crepes. Buckwheat crepes are quite rare, so we especially recommend them to tourists."

Izutsu-san has previously built a career as a chef in a variety of genres different from galettes, including Japanese, Western, and Italian cuisine.
"All the know-how I've gained from working in the restaurant industry is proving useful now. I truly believe that nothing goes to waste," he says, reflecting on his journey.
All the experience and skills honed on the job are the driving force behind our innovative menu development, store management, and overall creation of appealing restaurants.

CAFÉ de JIKAN aims to be a place that is loved across generations and remains deeply rooted in the community. The name of the shop reflects Mr. Terunuma's wish that customers spend their time there as if they were traveling through time.
The memories, history, and culture of Hokkaido's pioneering era, the people who gather there, and the nature itself—all these elements quietly intertwine in this place. We want this to be a shop where our customers' own "time" can be connected to the future, along with the history of the shop itself.
"CAFÉ de JIKAN" is a place where time flows gently, while cherishing past memories. A moment spent immersed in this peaceful atmosphere will add a warm touch to your travel memories.
