Experience wearing a kimono that can only be enjoyed in Kyoto at "Kyoto Kimono Rental Warin"

Muromachi Street developed into a wholesale district lined with kimono shops. This trend continues to this day, with many long-established kimono shops along the street that have been in business for hundreds of years. KyotoKimono Rental Warin, located in a building on one corner of the street, not only rents kimonos that allow you to wear the traditional culture of Kyoto, but also offers plans that allow you to enjoy activities.

"If only we could enjoy it casually" - Kimono rental was born from customer feedback

Warin, a long-established kimono wholesaler founded 120 years ago, has been operating a kimono rental business since 2009. At the time, there were few services offering casual kimono enjoyment, so the kimono rental business was born out of customer feedback.

"From my customer service, I felt that many people have stereotypes about kimonos and feel that they are difficult to wear. I want people to dispel those images and experience the beauty of kimonos. I want people to feel more comfortable touching and enjoying kimonos. I want people to feel more comfortable coming into contact with kimonos," says concierge Hori.

Kimono rental is a service born from the desire to be close to our customers.

We wanted to dispel the impression that "kimono = rental clothing" is a stiff concept. With this in mind, we considered the variety of kimono we would like to offer. Now, we welcome our customers with a wide variety of kimono, from casual kimono to pure silk kimono and Oshima Tsumugi, so that they can try on any kimono except for bridal clothing.

A wide variety of plans to suit your purpose for wearing kimono

Traditionally, kimonos have been worn for formal occasions such as ceremonies, and most of the time the purpose or use is fixed. On the other hand, casual kimonos are generally worn just for the sake of being worn.

As a result, some customers expressed concerns such as "What should I do wearing a kimono?" and "Where can I go for fun?" So a plan was created that allows you to experience activities to suggest a purpose for wearing a kimono. By providing a set with the purpose, we were able to realize our desire to have customers experience the good parts of Kyoto while wearing a kimono.

The experiential plans include a tea ceremony experience at Fukujuen, watching a performance at Minamiza Theater, and enjoying afternoon tea that combines Japanese and Western styles.

When coming up with the plan, it was important to us to have people experience Kyoto culture in a kimono, feel the beauty of Japanese culture, and enjoy an extraordinary time in a kimono. Although the experiencedoes not leave a tangible mark, it brings back vivid memories when you look back on it later. The experience plan in a location that makes you want to take pictures is very appealing.

Among the many plans available, the most popular is the "Adult Outing Plan," which includes a pure silk kimono that blends in with the streets of Kyoto.

The reason behind this recommendation comes from the concierge's own experience. "I've always loved kimonos, but I've had the problem of not being able to buy one. I wanted a plan that would allow people like me to wear kimonos with confidence and dignity. People with knowledge of kimonos know that they are rentals. I want people to feel confident wearing kimonos, even though they are rentals, as if they own them," says Hori.
